Want to find a picture-perfect Connecticut town that is also a hidden gem? Litchfield is the place. What a beautiful and walkable town with perfectly preserved 18th century homes and businesses. It is stunning in the fall.

We also stopped at the Litchfield Historical Society, which was featuring an exhibit called “With their Busy Needles.” It showed samplers that had been stitched by young girls as they learned how to sew. The samplers tell a story of the lives and families of these girls.

Just five miles out of Litchfield, we had to stop at the Thorncrest Farm and Milk House Chocolates in Goshen. You can visit the barn to see the cows and learn how the farm makes small batch chocolates with fresh milk, cream and butter.

Our wanderings next took us to Kent Falls State Park. We hiked up to the top of the the falls, which cascade 250 feet down on the way to the Housatonic River. It has been extremely dry in the area, so the falls were more of a trickle, but still beautiful.
