“Travel is fatal to prejudice” is just one of the hundreds of famous quotes from Samuel Clemons, known by his pen name as Mark Twain. The Mark Twain Home and Museum in Hartford, Connecticut, is a must-see.

Mark Twain and his family lived in this home for 17 years beginning in 1874. It was incredible to see the actual desk where he wrote some of his most famous works, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Life on the Mississippi and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Visitors aren’t allowed to take photos inside the home.

The author described the time his family lived in the Hartford home the “happiest and most productive years of his life.”

“To us, our house…had a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals and solicitudes and deep sympathies; it was of us, and we were in its confidence and lived in its grace and in the peace of its benediction.”

There is a great museum next to the home that we enjoyed touring. He was quite a character.

Posing with the Lego Mark Twain. Somehow I think he would find this hilarious.
