Shenandoah National Park

Shenandoah National Park

October 31, 2024 – Heading west towards home, we stayed a few days at beautiful Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. We camped at Big Meadows campground, which is in the middle of the vast 200,000 acre park.

The park circles the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. We missed the peak window of fall leaf viewing, but there were still plenty of breathtaking views.

The main way to get around the long, narrow park is by driving the 100-mile Skyline Drive. It crosses the ridgeline of the mountains. The famous highway was built during the Great Depression by about 1,000 men in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
