We fell in love with Savannah and its cobblestone streets. Our first day we enjoyed Oliver Bentley’s Historic Dog walking tour, a 90 minute dog-friendly hike around the historic district. The tour was led by Eric, the owner of Oliver Bentley’s pet store. Eric really knows his stuff! He made history come alive with fascinating tales.

We relied heavily on a great website for people who travel with their dogs. Bringfido.com is a great site with suggestions for activities and restaurants that welcome your furry family members.
Savannah was founded in 1733. It was designed with a distinct grid network of repeating residential blocks and squares as envisioned by James Oglethorpe, the founder of the colony of Georgia. He was ahead of his time in creating a very walkable and beautiful city that preserves green parks and encourages community connection.

We also took a golf cart tour through Bonaventure Cemetery. It rests on a bluff above the Wilmington River and is famous for its unique sculptures, design, and folklore. It is featured prominently in the bestselling book “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” by John Berendt, published in 1994. The true crime book is about a murder among Savannah’s elite.

Mercer Williams House, the home featured in “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” by John Berendt. This true crime nonfiction book has drawn hordes of tourists to Savannah.
